Aidan's Wish to Meet Santa Claus
If you want to meet Santa Claus in the middle of summer, where do you go? Santa Claus, Indiana, which was the wish request of four-year-old Aidan. In August, Aidan and his family packed up and drove to Santa Claus, Indiana, which was abuzz with the arrival of their guest of honor. Generous residents from Santa’s Candy Castle, the Visitor’s Center and the Santa Claus Post Office, were getting ready to receive their most special guest. The family pulled into Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort and was surprised to see Aidan’s campsite decorated with welcome signs. Holiday World (area theme park highlighting all holidays) and Splashin’ Safari donated park tickets and made a list of rides which were medically appropriate for Aidan. Aidan’s family wanted him to have a magical week and forget about the details of life which hold him back. Grandma Lori said, “So often we have to tell Aidan, ‘No, we can’t do that’ because of his limitations and it can be so discouraging. It’s like giving a kid a plate of cookies and telling them they can only eat the ones with the raisins. We wanted Aidan to have something where nothing was impossible.” With the help of the kind and caring people in Santa Claus, Aidan and his family had a memorable and heart warming experience. They made special friends, had their family photos taken, and toured the post office where all of Santa Claus’ letters are delivered. To top off the week, Aidan and Santa had a special meeting, with the two of them sharing a special moment. Now that is a wish with more than a little holiday magic.
THE MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION OF IOWA WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION FOR ADOPTING AIDAN'S WISH THROUGH A GENEROUS GRANT. SINCE 1992 THE DRA HAS GRANTED MORE THAN $134,000 TO THE IOWA CHAPTER IN SUPPORT OF WISHES FOR IOWA CHILDREN.
